On a sunny spring day in Charlottesville, Virginia, I met with Kim and Sam for an engagement session at the site of their upcoming wedding: Thomas Jefferson’s Montalto. Overlooking Thomas Jefferson’s well known property Monticello, Montalto rises 410 feet up the mountain providing the most stunning sweeping valley views. With the perfect early spring breeze and painterly clouds in the April sky, we explored the grounds, imagining their late summer celebration and capturing sweet moments together before heading to downtown Charlottesville.
After spending the afternoon admiring the horizon and gushing over favorite true crime podcasts, we ventured down the mountain to downtown Charlottesville. We explored the main center city walk with its quaint sidewalk cafes, musicians, and local shops. After picking up fresh coffees we stopped by their favorite restaurant who will also be catering their celebration before ending the night among Charlottesville’s blooming dogwood trees.
I can not wait to celebrate these two later this summer and to see this property in full bloom. With its expansive lawn, ample tent space, stone terraces, and exquisitely designed house, Montalto is the perfect setting for a night full of beauty, nature, loved ones, and memories to last a lifetime.
